Logistics with Hanseatic Tradition: Stephani Spedition GmbH from Bremen

1920

The Stephanitorsbollwerk Cotton and Warehousing Company mbH is founded. The company begins as a pure warehousing operation specialized in cotton. Shortly after its foundation, eight packing warehouses are built with a total capacity of around 30,000 bales – an impressive start for the time.

1945

At the end of World War II, the entire company site is completely destroyed. The war leaves deep marks, but the will to rebuild remains strong.

1947

With great commitment, the reconstruction of the company in Bremen begins. The foundation for a new start is laid.

1948

The company receives a new name: From Stephanitorsbollwerk Cotton and Warehousing Company mbH it becomes Stephani Spedition GmbH. A phase of expansion and realignment towards additional logistical services begins.

1998

Stephani Spedition celebrates its 50th anniversary under its current name. The company has by now become a well-established player in the logistics sector.

2010

A comprehensive strategic restructuring begins. The company expands its service portfolio in the area of contract logistics, focusing especially on international trading companies. Stephani establishes a global network of representative offices and agents to operate reliably on a worldwide scale.

The offices of Stephani Spedition GmbH are relocated within the Bremen industrial port – from building number 57 to 55. This step optimizes the spatial infrastructure and creates new opportunities for efficient operations.

2019

As part of a major modernization program, halls B1 to B6 are completely refurbished. This includes new roofs, renovated floors, and the installation of modern LED lighting for sustainable illumination. The logistics areas thereby gain in quality, safety, and energy efficiency.

2020

A year of anniversaries: The original company foundation marks its 100th anniversary, while Stephani Spedition GmbH celebrates 50 years under its current name. The company now operates a state-of-the-art logistics center with around 35,000 m² of total space and approx. 22,500 m² of warehouse area – located in the heart of Bremen.

2021

As part of the ongoing modernization of the site, halls A1 to A5 are also completely refurbished. Alongside the renewal of the roofs, the industrial flooring is updated and LED lighting is installed. This continues the company’s commitment to sustainable and efficient warehousing.

2022

A pivotal year in company history: Stephani Spedition GmbH is acquired by the Bionatic Group, headquartered in Bremen. The Bionatic Group is a consortium of sustainable companies focused on eco-friendly packaging solutions. It includes:

The acquisition strengthens Bionatic’s logistics capabilities, securing in-house storage and shipping capacities – a strategic step toward supply chain resilience. Additionally, Hall D is modernized – including new LED technology and roof renovation.

2024

The roof of Hall C is renewed, LED systems installed, and a new high-bay warehouse with approx. 4,000 storage spaces is built – a further milestone in Stephani’s logistics efficiency. Hall D receives a new industrial floor to meet increasing logistical demands.

At the same time, the complete system integration of Stephani Spedition into the Bionatic Group is finalized. From April 2024, Stephani Spedition takes over the entire warehouse logistics of the group. Logistics and import warehouses of Greenbox and Ecoware are fully relocated to the Stephani site.

A key step is the technical integration of the warehouse management system: Stephani’s logistics software is seamlessly connected to Greenbox’s digital infrastructure – ensuring maximum transparency and efficiency across the entire supply chain.
